The Jury of the EEP Award 2007 awarded the following companies:

The Gold EEP Award 2007

Company: Nanovis, Switzerland
Innovation: Nanocleaner NC-350; For cleaning ink-contaminated parts of printing machines.

Nanocleaner NC-350 is the first member of a product line for the cleaning and surface treatments of contaminated parts, utilising nano-technology. The NC-350 is specifically designed for cleaning applications in the field of pad printing. The pad printing shops usually are very often back yard facilities with good printing machinery but poor cleaning methods, typically involving Volatile compounds (VOC) which are known to be hazardous to the environment (ozone depletion) as well as to the workers health in the print shop (vapours cause headache, allergies). The NC-350 offers a closed loop system with affordable investment placing pad printers in the position to clean their appliances and devices according to environmental regulations, the same time protecting their employees against health impairing influences in their working areas.

The Silver EEP Award 2007

Company: SkySails, Germany
Innovation: SkySails-System; A towing kite wind propulsion system for ships.

It is SkySails aim to reduce fuel consumption and emissions of modern shipping by the utilisation of environmentally friendly, free-of-charge wind energy. For this, SkySails is developing, producing and distributing a towing kite wind propulsion-system. By substituting the engine power partly with the SkySails-System a ship’s fuel consumption and its emissions are reduced by 10-35% on annual average, depending on the wind conditions. Under optimal wind conditions, fuel consumption can temporarily be reduced by up to 50%. At the current oil price a SkySails propulsion creates approx. just 1/3 of the cost of a conventional ship diesel. The investment in a SkySails-System will typically amortise within 3 to 5 years.

The Bronze EEP Award 2007

Company: MAKLAD Fluid, Austria
Innovation: MAKLAD-Injector; An inactivator of the wastewater, by direct supersonic steam injection.

The inactivating of wastewater, - contaminated with bacteria and GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) -, by means of direct steam applying the MAKLAD-Injector (an innovative Direct-Steam-Injector) is the most effective and reliable method. Following effects are utilized in one proces step:
  • thermal sterilisation
  • mechanical shear by cavitation
  • chemical reaction
The MAKLAD-Injector inactivates continuous the wastewater by temperatures between 150° -155°C in less than 1 second in comparison to already existing technologies by temperatures of 121° C in 15 minutes. With the MAKLAD-Injector and its technology, energy- saving up to 95% and space-saving up to 80% can be achieved.
